The Virtual Spring Convention will take place Friday April 29th from 11:00am to 1:00pm.

Brendan has a broad media law practice with extensive experience providing advice and representation to news organizations and other publishers or broadcasters. Brendan is regularly retained by media organizations to defend lawsuits involving claims of defamation and privacy breaches. He experience in all aspects of the litigation process and is particularly familiar with the unique and technical aspects of claims made against the media. He further represents broadcasters, newspapers and other media organizations in proceedings involving sealing orders and publication bans. Brendan has been retained by most major Canadian media organizations to litigate the issue of court openness and to seek public access to court materials. Brendan has numerous reported decisions in this respect. |
Brendan also provides pre-publication advice to news organizations, book publishers, websites, podcasts and other content providers on a 24-7 basis.
Additionally, he practices insurance and corporate/commercial litigation and has represented clients in a wide range of disputes. Brendan has appeared in all levels of Court in Ontario, the Federal Court and various administrative tribunals. Brendan received his LL.B. from the University of British Columbia in 2005 and was called to the bar in 2006.

Ron Guest is an accomplished Human Resource Professional with 30 years’ experience in Human Resource Management. He has worked in the Hi Tech, Telecommunications, Petroleum, Printing, Distribution, Manufacturing and Construction industries for companies such as Imperial Oil, Badger America, Southam Printing, Bell Sygma, Bell Nexxia and Merisel Canada. In 2000 Ron entered the HR Consulting world, realizing a long-term career goal and has never looked back, now as an HR consultant to small/medium sized businesses, and co-founder of TwoGreySuits.com. He is well known for his vast HR knowledge, hands on HR approach and specifically, his recruitment and recruitment training expertise. He has successfully staffed many organizations and has built HR functions from the ground up several times. |
He has US and also International HR experience and has a Bachelor of Commerce degree from Saint Mary’s University.
He resides in Oakville, Ontario with his wife Sueann and they have three daughters and very recently a first grandchild, Ivy Margaret. He is an avid golfer and self-confessed sports fanatic.

Paul Deegan is President and Chief Executive Officer of News Media Canada - the voice of the print and digital media industry in Canada, representing hundreds of trusted news titles in every province and territory. Mr. Deegan joined BMO Financial Group in 1996 as a policy adviser in the CEO's office. From 2009 to 2015, he was Vice-President, Government and Public Relations. From 2015 to 2018, he was Vice-President, Public and Government Affairs at Canadian National Railway Company. He studied at McGill and graduated from University of Toronto in History and Political Science. |
While at BMO, he completed two advanced executive programs with the Ivey/Kellogg and Rotman business schools.
Mr. Deegan is a director of the Michener Awards Foundation and is a member of the Canadian Investment Committee of the Society of the Sacred Heart. He is a past director of the Canadian Journalism Foundation and is a contributing writer to Policy Magazine. He is married with two children.
